The ancient town of Béziers, perched above the Orb river in the breathtaking region of Occitanie in the south of France, inspired this painting that embodies the essence of this vibrant locale. "Au Soleil Béziers" (in the sun in Beziers) captures the luminous spirit and warmth that characterized my extended stay there. I immersed myself in the rich history of the Cathars and Beziers defiance and the surrounding fields that cradle the town, kissed by the eternal sun and enveloped in the baking heat of summer. Vineyards abound and the town's weekly wine tastings on the Allees Paul Riquet were outstanding. 

The experience was transformative, prompting me to channel this sensory overload a series of paintings entitled Béziers Studies. The vibrant hues represent not just the physical beauty of Béziers but also the emotional resonance of the inhabitants and my time spent there. Each brushstroke is a dialogue between nature and the artist, echoing the golden yellows, deep greens, and cerulean blues that define the region's breathtaking vistas. The painting pulses with energy and vitality, echoing the rhythms of life that resonate throughout the streets and fields.

A recent visit to Paris had exposed me to the stunning work of Joan Mitchell at an exhibit dedicated to her legacy. Her large gestural brushstrokes and bold use of color spoke volumes to me, igniting a personal artistic renaissance. The emotional landscape of her work propelled me to unleash a torrent of joy upon my canvas, resulting in a piece that radiates happiness and warmth.

This work invites viewers to bask in the joy of the Mediterranean spirit, to recall their own cherished memories of sun-soaked days and vibrant colors.
