About Lucy

Lucy Godwin's abstract expressionist paintings combine creative mark-making and bold gestural applications of color, frequently inspired by Joan Mitchell, DeKooning and Matisse. Creating intuitively generates unexpected results in her process-driven practice as her brushes dance to music while celebrating the joy of personal expression. The viewer explores the nuances of the large-scale canvas, the colors, movement and mark making, and is energized by its visual impact creating a focal point for high-end design interiors.

Lucy is based in Vancouver, BC, and completed her art education at Emily Carr University. Seasonally, Lucy travels to France to view art exhibitions, enjoy cafe life and culture, and has retraced the footsteps of Matisse and Picasso. Her paintings are held by collectors in Canada, Mexico, USA, France and Turkey.

                   Artist Statement

I'm an lyrical expressionist artist driven by movement, colour and curiosity. My abstracts are microclimates of exploration and intuition, overcoming chaos as the work builds to reveal the unforeseen, alla prima.

Inspired, the exploration starts, the colors swirls, lush and yummy. I'm in the flow. My brushes dance, a visceral reaction to music ranging from raggaeton to Mozart.
