Feria (Béziers Study) was inspired by living in Beziers during an extreme heatwave in August during the town's annual feria which draws 3/4 million people to the small town. The baking heat reached 41.5 celsuis. At night concerns of passionate gypsy music stirred the soul and the town was flooded by visitors coming to see the bullfights and the matadors' costumes de lumières. (I did not attend the bullfights!)
As I began to paint, the colors danced across the canvas. Shades of pink emerged. Purple followed, deep and enigmatic, capturing both the mystery and complexity of the town's long history, the oldest town in France. Yellow splashes carved through with joy and brightness, while white hues intertwined creating a sense of lightness. A whirlwind of vivid hues, an exuberant interplay of color, movement and energy to captivate the viewer.
Original SOLD but high quality canvas prints are available through my Saatchi art website.
